Fuel cell station to open in US 13th January 2006
Clean energy research firm Hydrogenics has announced that it has been awarded a contract to build one of the first hydrogen refuelling stations in the US.
Basin Electric Power Cooperative has awarded Hydrogenics the contract to develop an electrolyser-based hydrogen refuelling station in Minot, North Dakota.
In a bid to ensure that the new refuelling station will remain as green as possible, the company will be using a wind power resource to create the energy needed to extract the hydrogen required from water.
The installation will further enhance the development of fuel cell vehicles in the US and is likely to attract even more interest from environmentally-conscious consumers.
An important barrier to the success of fuel cell and hybrid vehicles until recently has been the lack of refuelling stations across the US, but the work of Hydrogenics and similar companies looks to be tackling that problem.
