Fuel cell industry on the verge of 10th March 2005

A Swedish technology company has predicted a "powerful expansion" in fuel cell commercialisation and has announced plans to step up its own fuel cell production.

Morphic Technologies has decided to increase existing production capacity for manufacturing flow plates for fuel cells from two prototype facilities to a complete high capacity production plant in order to meet increasing demand.

Morphic says it has received a "positive response" to its newly launched marketing of the company's fuel cell operations, with leading fuel cell corporations putting in requests for substantial volumes.

"The commercialisation of fuel cells has already started for both small and large power stations for electricity production as well as replacements for batteries within several mobile product areas," said Peter Heidlund, president of Morphic Technologies.

"We see powerful expansion within these areas over the next few years. Together with the automotive industry's ongoing shift from combustion engines to fuel cells on a large scale, we are definitely entering a fuel cell society with hydrogen and methane as fuels with a dramatic improvement of the environment as a result," he added.

The company believes that, given that the ongoing transfer from combustion engine and batteries to a hydrogen society is developing rapidly, it is now strongly positioned to take part in the industrial commercialisation of fuel cells.track
