Fuel cell demand 'increasing' 18th July 2007
It has been reported that demand for fuel cells is on the increase, as many high-profile organisations are supporting the technology.
In the US in particular, there is an increasing interest in fuel cell technology, with the Department of Energy pledging $100 million to 25 projects that will look into developing fuel cells for a variety of uses.
"The Department of Energy is committed to breaking our addiction to oil by creating a diverse portfolio of clean, affordable and domestically produced energy choices," said US Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman.
"We expect hydrogen to play an integral role in our energy portfolio and we are eager to see hydrogen fuel cell vehicles on the road," he added.
Meanwhile, the US Department of Energy is itself seeking to develop improved efficiency levels for fuel cell technology that will make them more affordable and efficient to become the energy source of choice for many companies.
