Fuel cell bike showcased 15th February 2006
A fuel cell motorbike is being shown off to visitors as part of a major exhibition aimed at highlighting the future of transport.
On display at the Dray Walk Gallery in The Truman Brewery on Brick Lane, London, the ENV fuel cell motorbike, developed by Intelligent Energy, will form part of The Road Ahead exhibition.
It is hoped that the event, which will see the bike on display until February 19th, will bring home to visitors the importance of new technologies such as fuel cell vehicles in finding a new way to tackle climate change.
As more countries look to clamp down on emissions from vehicles, the fuel cell bike is likely to have a major impact on the market, due to the fact that it is almost entirely free from emissions.
The ENV is the world's first purpose-built fuel cell motorbike and is capable of operating on and off the road at speeds of up to 50mph.
It runs on a fuel cell that can be detached to power other machines such as motorboats. When fully fuelled, it can run the ENV continuously for four hours. The bike runs completely silently.
The ENV will cost less than $10,000 and will be available within the next 18 months.
