Flat panel displays set to exceed 07/08 projections by 6 per cent 6th July 2007

Total revenue from sales of flat panel display (FPD) screens are set to exceed previous projections by six per cent and hit $194.6 billion over 2007 and 2008, according to figures from DisplaySearch.

An increase in projected FPD revenue of $92.7 billion for 2007 and $102 billion in 2008 has led the research body to amend its earlier projected figure of £183.4 billion for the two-year period.

The principal factor cited for the increase in DisplaySearch's Quarterly Worldwide FPD Forecast Report is the continued strengthening of the price of TFT LCD.

Hence, despite the fact that unit shipments are expected to fall by less than one per cent, this slight decline is to be offset by an 11 per cent rise in the average price of a unit.

Meanwhile, estimated FPD revenue across all applications will hit $41.1 billion during the first half of 2007 - representing a four per cent increase from the year ago period.

DisplaySearch's figures also revealed that sales of LCD TV panels are due to show a year-on-year increase by 38 per cent from the first half of 2007 and the first half of 2008.

Revenue from mobile phone displays is however set to remain static between 2006 and 2008.
