Finalists named for $40k platinum engagement ring contest 1st December 2011

The six finalists have been named in a contest for US service personnel to win a platinum and diamond engagement ring worth $40,000.

Scott Anderson, president and chief and executive officer of online diamond jeweller Union Diamond, revealed the nominees in the My Perfect Union competition.

In addition to a total of 240 candidates whittled down to just six finalists, the website received thousands of visits.

The contest invited members of the military, both serving and retired, to nominate themselves or be put forward by their friends and family.

"I've read each submission more than a few times. I just keep reminding myself of what I wanted to accomplish going in to this," Mr Anderson told JCK Online. "They are all so deserving. Every last one."

The six finalists are Army E-4 Derek McConnell, Army Specialist Michael Brewer, Air Force Captain Shawntez Brooks, Marine Coporal Jose Parra, Army E-4 Joshua Krumpelmand and retired Army Colonel Robert Sholly, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1983.
