Fiat develops new hydrogen offering 13th April 2005

A new hydrogen-powered car will soon be available from Fiat, the company has announced.

The prototype is based on the old Seicento and produces 41 bhp with a top speed of 80 mph and a range of 200 kilometres, Reuters reports.

It uses hydrogen fuel to feed a metallic hydride stack and is capable of producing 48 V of electrical energy, with a maximum power output of 20 kW.

A special dynamic compressor enables the Seicento to deliver a high dynamic output, low noise and high efficiency, in addition to producing no pollution emissions or CO2.

The car has already been in the public eye, taking part in last weekend's reliability event for hydrogen-powered vehicles in Monte Carlo.

It performed well, finishing second in the fuel cell category and winning the category for compressed hydrogen-powered vehicles.track
