Federal-Mogul platinum spark plugs prove popular 25th May 2004
Federal-Mogul's latest platinum spark plugs have attracted much attention in the racing world and beyond following a strong performance in the Chevy American Revolution 400 competition.
The new spark plugs, which use a platinum centre, helped to power four of the top five cars in the Nextel Cup event, drawing positive responses from those involved.
Using the Champion Spark Plug-powered cars Earnhardt Junior won his third Nextel Cup event of 2004, along with three other vehicles exploiting the pgm-based technology.
"Our proprietary firing-end plug technologies have won races this year on superspeedways and the Cup Series' most challenging short tracks, which typically result in higher engine operating temperatures," said Champion brand manager Lou Kafantaris.
"We're thrilled with the performance of Champion plugs in all engine designs and track environments."
The spark plugs have also now been prepared for commercial use, combining precious-metal conductors with optimized firing-end geometries for exceptional spark focus.
According to Federal-Mogul, the plugs' particular composition allows them to reach optimal temperature quickly and maintain the ideal heat range under varying loads.
Federal-Mogul operates across the world in its supply of automotive components, sub-systems, modules and systems, and has contracts with a number of major manufacturers.
