HTX Minerals Corp Options Hele project to Impala Platinum (11/09/09)

HTX Minerals Corp and Impala Platinum have signed an agreement concerning HTX's majority-held Hele Nickel-Platinum Group Metals property. The deal will allow Impala Platinum to accrue a 50 per cent interest in the property through the provision of $250,000 (£151,600) and investment of a further $750,000.

Geologist Dr Larry Hulbert has identified eight drill targets at MacDonald Mines Exploration's Nielsen-Chisholm Property following the completion of extensive preliminary exploration activity. The targets are thought to be good prospects for both magmatic sulphide mineralisation (Ni-Cu-platinum group elements) and volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) mineralisation

690,000 ounces platinum equivalent initial resource at Thunder Bay North (07/09/09)

Initial resource estimates for Magma Metals' Thunder Bay North project in north-west Ontario suggest that, on a platinum equivalent basis, the combined indicated and inferred resources are 8.18Mt at 2.62g/t PtEq for 690,000 oz PtEq. Ongoing infill and step-out drilling could see resources increased, while a scoping study is due to be started in the December quarter.

Strong gains tipped for Platinum (07/09/09)

According to the Australian, the 690,000 oz of platinum equivalent at the Magma project in Canada can be broken down into 624,000 oz of platinum and palladium, 24,250 tonnes of copper and 16,800 tonnes of nickel.

Bonanza platinum and palladium grades at Serra Pelada gold project (03/09/09)

Colossus Minerals is uncovering some surprising pgm grades at a gold exploration project at Serra Pelada in Brazil, Mineweb reports. According to the news provider, the Canadian company has discovered, along with its Brazilian partner COOMIGASP, "staggeringly" high-grade gold/pgm mineralisation in a 100-hectare section of the Serra Pelada pit.

Pan African shares rise as gold junior exits exploration, focuses on mining (01/09/09)

Pan African Resources CEO Jan Nelson believes the company's recently-acquired Phoenix Platinum project will be in a position to produce between 10,000 oz and 15,000 oz by the beginning of 2011, Mining Weekly reports. "The Phoenix platinum tailings plant comes on line in 18 months and the company [is] looking at additional opportunities," Mr Nelson told the news provider.

Kameni scouring for more platinum (27/08/09)

Kameni is looking to boost its resource base ahead of a planned stock exchange listing in 2010, the Financial Gazette reports. According to the publication, the pgm and chrome producer has targeted a resource base of 30 million ounces, and has a war chest of R1 billion (£82 million) with which to make acquisitions.

Marathon Converting Waste to Ore (26/08/09)

Initial phase results for the 2009 campaign at the Marathon Pgm-Cu Project have been announced by Marathon PGM Corporation. Highlights include the confirmation of continuous downdip mineralisation from surface on the eastern margin of a newly identified mineralised area. "This drilling is testing the recently enhanced block model and a newly identified zone with some pretty good results," confirmed David Good, Vice President of Exploration at Marathon.

New exploration project for platinum group metals considered in Guyana (25/08/09)

The Upper Potaro area in Guyana has been earmarked as a potential location for platinum group metal exploration, Caribbean Net News reports. The possibility was discussed at the eighth National Mining and Quarrying Conference. According to Dr Serge Nadeau of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission, the search is now on to find an area with a high enough concentration to make extraction economically viable.

Northern Shield Resources Identifies PGE-Ni-Cu Mineralization on New Property in Western Ontario (04/09/09)

Considerable PGE [Pge] -Ni-Cu mineralisation has been discovered on a Northern Shield Resources property in western Ontario. The property, known as Q-1, lies near the Quetico fault. A grab sample taken at the site revealed 1.1 g/t Pt, 1.4 g/t Pd, 0.7 per cent Cu and 0.1 per cent Ni.

Northern Shield Resources Provides Update on its PGE Exploration activities in the James Bay Lowlands; Completes drilling at Eastbank (18/08/09)

An auger drill programme is due to take place at Northern Shield Resources' Wabassi property, it has been revealed. The programme is scheduled for early in the autumn and will test the feeder zone for pge and nickel mineralisation. Meanwhile, a drill programme carried out at Northern Shield Resources' Eastbank property found no significant pge mineralisation, although the drill remains onsite in preparation for future work.
