Northern Shield Resources Inc said it has signed a letter of intent with South Africa's Impala Platinum regarding an option on Northern Shield's 100 per cent owned Idefix platinum group element (pge) property in Quebec.

In November, Northern Shield collected 21 grab samples from a gabbro sill during the reconnaissance of the Idefix property.

Nine returned assays greater than one gram per tonne platinum, palladium and gold. Three samples assayed greater than seven grams per tonne Pt+Pd+Au.

"We are very pleased that Impala continues to recognise Northern Shield's expertise and dedication to pge exploration in Canada and the significant results from Idefix," said Northern Shield president and chief executive officer Ian Bliss.

Platinum Group Reports Q1 2012 Financial Results (25/01/12)

Platinum Group Metals Ltd announced its Q1 2012 financial and operational results.

Highlights included the completion of the box cut excavation at the Project 1 Platinum Mine in South Africa, and the commencement of a joint engineering study on potential synergies with the Jinchuan-Wesizwe platinum mine adjacent to the Project 1 mine site.

In November 2011 the company completed the formal public consultation process and documentation related to its Environmental Impact Assessment for the Project 1.

That month also saw the firm report drill intercepts in a newly discovered extension of the North Limb grading 3.47 g/t platinum, palladium and gold over 3.5 metres and 7.00 g/t over five metres at vertical depth of approximately 660 m on the Waterberg project.

North American Palladium Intersects High Grades Underground at LDI Mine and Reef-Style Mineralization on Surface Near Open Pit (30/01/12)

North American Palladium said infill drill results in the Offset Zone at its Lac des Iles (LDI) mine returned "excellent" grades, with 78 metres at 7.39 g/t palladium and 33 metres at 8.71 g/t palladium.

There was also good indication of a southern extension to the Offset Zone in an area previously reported as the Southern Norite Zone, including 39 metres at 4.02 g/t palldium and 15 metres at 5.13 g/t palladium.

The firm also encountered "bonanza" grade surface mineralisation from trenches along the North VT Rim, 500 metres northeast of the LDI open pit, including one-metre samples at 64.4 g/t palladium and 45.8 g/t palladium.

"The success of our 85,000-metre drill campaign in 2011 underpins the significant exploration potential of the LDI property, and supports our view that we have only scratched the surface in our exploration endeavours," said William J Biggar, president and chief executive officer.

Magma Metals Limited: Quarterly Report for the Period Ended December 31, 2011 (30/01/12)

Magma Metals Ltd intersected 10.5 metres at 2.9 g/t palladium and platinum and five metres at 3.76 g/t platinum and palladium from exploration drilling at its Thunder Bay North Platium-Palladium Project in Ontario.

The firm said infill drilling will be required to evaluate the resource potential of the zone, which is around 550m beyond the recently defined 450m extension of mineralisation.

Drilling Expands PGE & Gold Mineralization Along Strike at Haukiaho Target, LK Project, North Central Finland (31/01/12)

Nortec Minerals Corp announced results from the first three drill holes from the Phase V drilling programme at the company's Läntinen Koillismaa palladium-platinum-gold-copper-nickel project in north-central Finland.

Highlights included 44 metres at 0.8g/t platinum palladium and gold, including 13 metres at 1.15g/t platinum, palladium and gold.

Anooraq, Anglo American Platinum Limited Announce Restructure, Recapitalization and Refinancing Transaction for Anooraq And Bokoni Group (02/02/12)

Anarooq Resources and Anglo American Platinum (Amplats) have agreed a deal to refinance Anarooq and restructure and recapitalise the Bokoni Platinum group.

It will result in production growth at Bokoni Platinum Mine, adding 100,000 platinum group metal ounces per annum by 2016.

There will also be a strategic re-alignment of the Bokoni group exploration and development mineral assets, by consolidating these assets into existing mine operations at Amplats' Twickenham and Mogalakwena mines.

Amplats chief executive officer Neville Nicolau said: "This transaction provides Amplats with access to mineral properties that provide synergies with our operations at Mogalakwena and Twickenham.

"The refinancing and restructuring position the Bokoni Platinum Mine for expansion into a substantial and sustainable operation."

Junior exploring new opportunities along Bushveld Complex (03/02/12)

Sable Platinum is in the initial drilling stages of an extended exploration plan on a number of sites along the western limb of the Bushveld Complex in South Africa.

"The company has a huge attributable resource that we believe is well mineralised with platinum-group metals (pgms), and which ranges in depth from the surface to 3,000 m," said chief executive officer James Allan.

"We have a target of over 300 million ounces of resources on these projects, of which around 180 million ounces is attributable to Sable."

In addition to platinum, it is thought there is potential for vanadium recovery from some of the sites.

Minfocus Exploration Starts Winter Program at Nipigon Reefs (06/02/12)

Minfocus has commenced work for a winter drilling programme on its Seagull North claims, which form part of its Nipigon Reefs project in north-western Ontario.
