Europe to face fuel efficient influx 14th November 2005
An influx of fuel efficient hybrid vehicles is set for the European market, according to a report in Japan.
Claims in the Nihon Keizai Shimbun suggest that a number of Japanese manufacturers, including Honda and Mitsubishi, are preparing to launch an assault on the European market with a number of fuel efficient releases.
The manufacturers believe that the European market will lap up more fuel efficient vehicles due to increasing concerns over climate change and moves to tackle harmful emissions, as well as the increased interest in diesel-powered vehicles resulting from increasingly high petrol prices across the globe.
According to the newspaper, Honda is planning to launch a new hybrid version of its Civic sedan during the spring of next year, while Mitsubishi is expected to export its i minicar following its launch in Japan in January.
Toyota is also understood to be developing its hybrid range for the European market, as the Japanese companies look to deliver cleaner vehicles to Europe.
