EU emissions caps set for go-ahead 9th February 2007
Germany has accepted new plans from the European Union (EU) to place a cap on the amount of emissions automotive companies are allowed to produce.
Manufacturers will be required to reduce the amount of emissions they produce or face penalties from the EU, but the country has now announced it will not challenge the cap.
"We were able to push through several of our points but on the upper level of the quotas there was no change," explained government spokesman Ulrich Wilhelm.
The announcement paves the way for the implementation of the new compulsory scheme and is likely to see manufacturers working hard to develop and implement emissions-reducing technologies.
