DTE unveils new hydrogen station 20th October 2004
DTE Energy has unveiled a new hydrogen fueling station in Michigan, positing it as an indication of the capability to deliver the wider infrastructure necessary to support the 'hydrogen economy'.
The Stuart Energy Station (SES), which was developed by the eponymous company on behalf of DTE, forms part of the Southfield Hydrogen Technology Park.
The station can deliver high-purity hydrogen fuel to vehicles and can also power fuel cells.
It functions by the process of water electrolysis, separating water into hydrogen and oxygen, facilitating safe storage and distribution.
Anthony F. Earley Junior, chairman and chief executive of DTE Energy, hailed the work done in "designing, manufacturing and delivering a fully integrated hydrogen fueling station in approximately six months".
The system is capable of producing and delivering 30 Nm3h (65 kg/day) of hydrogen at 6000 psi to vehicles.
