DPF and SCR 'best for emissions reducing' 2nd March 2007
A new report has claimed that the best way to reduce particulate emissions into the atmosphere is to use diesel particulate filters (DPF).
According to research carried out by Sadler Consultants, retrofitting such filters to vehicles could be the most cost-effective and valuable way to reduce emissions in the atmosphere across the European Union.
Meanwhile, the report also concluded that using selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems would be the most effective way to tackle NOx emissions.
The report claims that SCRs can help to reduce NOx emissions from vehicles by up to 85 per cent. As a result, Sadler Consultants recommended that the two technologies should be used in conjunction to help reduce the amount of emissions created by vehicles.
Sadler Consultants states that the technologies should be combined and prioritised as a retrofit option across Europe to help tackle emissions levels.
