DisplaySearch revises LCD television production outlook 19th December 2008
Market research firm DisplaySearch has announced that it has revised the expectations for LCD television production it set out in its recent 'Quarterly Global TV Shipment and Forecast Report'.
EE Times Asia reports today (19th December) that the group now expects the LCD market segment to reach 102.2 million units for 2008, representing 29 per cent year-on-year growth but a decrease of three million from its Q3 forecast.
In addition, it predicts that 119.9 million units will be sold in 2009, which equates to a year-on-year rise of 17 per cent but an 11.5 million reduction from the third-quarter prediction.
The company has also expressed concerns about the ongoing effects of the global economic downturn, and in particular its impact on demand in developed markets.
It now believes that unit growth will be roughly two per cent year-on-year in Japan, North America and western Europe.
LCD television growth in emerging markets is similarly being predicted to suffer, with DisplaySearch expecting an increase of 45 per cent on a year-on-year basis in 2009, compared to a figure of 68 per cent in 2008.
Finally, the firm expressed the view that price reductions are continuing to push the shift to FPD television as CRT television penetration in these emerging regions is currently between 60 and 70 per cent.
