Diesel gets a makeover 15th November 2005
Diesel power is to be given an image overhaul in a bid to increase the number of people using the fuel in their cars.
Modern diesel technology can actually reduce fuel consumption by as much as 30 per cent, as well as reduce the amount of harmful emissions being pumped into the atmosphere through the use of catalysts.
The fuel has long played second string to petrol, but as technology improves and oil prices rocket, diesel is becoming a more attractive alternative, something on which automotive supplier Robert Bosch is looking to capitalise.
Odd Joergenrud, Asia-Pacific vice president of automotive after-market sales at Robert Bosch, commented: "We want to change the image of the diesel car. Modern diesel is not smoky, and not slow."
Speaking at a media briefing in Kuala Lumpur, Mr Joergenrud explained that he is looking to raise awareness of the attributes of diesel over petrol.
Diesel has seen an upturn in sales over the last few months as more people turn their back on petrol-powered cars because of the surging price of oil.
Its clean attributes are also winning it fans, as improved technology is now making diesel a more attractive option for countries looking to reduce their emissions to meet international targets.
