Denver to study driving behaviour and fuel consumption 13th March 2008
Denver is launching the world's first vehicular greenhouse gas (GHG) management and reduction pilot program, in an attempt to find new ways for drivers to address climate change.
The project, named Driving Change, will measure driving behaviours and how this affects fuel consumption.
Reports on the internet will inform drivers of better ways to run their vehicles and save the environment.
Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, said: "Driving Change can help City employees and Denver residents reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions simply by changing the way we drive."
By May the project aims to have attracted a total of 400 private and public vehicles as the study aims to see if there is a correlation between driving behaviour and harmful emissions.
Automobile emissions account for about 30 per cent of GHG emissions in Denver and one of the biggest causes of greenhouse gases is NOx emissions which are released from cars.
Catalytic reduction technologies can help to reduce the level of NOx emissions, as well as sensible driving techniques.
