Denmark doubles public funding for fuel cell vehicle research 19th June 2007

Denmark is to double its financial backing for development of hydrogen and fuel cell cars with platinum autocatalysts, the country's Prime Minister has announced.

Addressing staff at hydrogen fuel cell motive power-solutions company H2 Logic, Anders Fogh Rasmussen said that funding for the research and development of eco-friendly vehicles will stand at $33 million for 2007.

Meanwhile, in a bid to encourage drivers to opt for eco-friendly cars over their more polluting counterparts, Mr Rasmussen also announced that tax on hydrogen cars is to be removed entirely.

The Prime Minister had been visiting the firm to examine the progress made thus far by the company with its TH!NK hydrogen city car, which is powered by the company's H2 Logic fuel cell technology.

A spokesman for H2 Logic said: "The prime minister's visit to H2 Logic is a strong acknowledgement of the potential in hydrogen for transport as well as the activities in H2 Logic.

"We are pleased to hear the intentions from the Prime Minister to finalise the tax exception on hydrogen cars and boost in public funding for energy research and demonstration."
