Demand doubles for platinum phones 17th August 2006
Luxury mobile phone maker Vertu has seen demand for its platinum and gold phones soar.
Speaking to Reuters, the mobile phone company's marketing director, Chris Harris, revealed sales of the precious metal phones have boomed.
Indeed, with the exclusive models gaining wider exposure after being picked up by leading celebrities such as Premiership footballers, the luxury offshoot of Nokia has been struggling to cope with the level of interest.
"At the moment we cannot meet demand," Mr Harris revealed. "Sales are more than doubling this year. We hope that pace will continue also next year."
He added that the figures for the phones, which retail at around $129, still had room for growth.
"We are not in the hundreds of thousands yet, but our aspirations are there," he revealed.
The phones have become a must-have icon for many, with the signature collection's range of platinum, 18 carat white gold, 18 carat yellow gold and stainless steel casings proving a hit with aspirational and wealthy consumers.
