Daimler Chrysler considers fuel cell debut in India 9th January 2007
Automaker Daimler Chrysler is reportedly considering launching a commercial fuel cell vehicle in India.
The company's head of technology, Thomas Weber, has said that he is currently looking at India as a possible market for the cars, reports the Hindu newspaper.
The paper reports Mr Weber as saying: "We see India as an important market for growth."
Cleaner fuel technology, like new diesel engines, is already to be introduced to the continent, he added.
Recently, India announced that it is to start the operation of its first hydrogen filling station in the first part of 2007.
Indian Oil Company is to offer hydrogen refuelling capabilities at a petrol pump near Nigambodh Ghat.
The pump will deliver hydrogen and hydrogen mixed with CNG, allowing hydrogen fuel cell vehicles to refuel and bringing the viability of such machines a little closer in India.
