Corning to expand to China 31st March 2006
Corning will expand its manufacturing operations to Shaghai, China in a $15 million project prompted by the growing demand for clean cars.
The company manufacture products and filters that create fewer vehicle emissions and specialise in breakthrough technologies and innovation.
By expanding to China, Corning will take advantage of the current focus on reducing air emissions by most major countries.
Thomas Appelt, vice president and general manager of Corning Automotive Technologies, said: "The tightening of emissions standards in Asia and around the world continues to drive demand for Corning clean-air products."
"Through the expansion of our facility in China, we will be better able to supply clean-air products to our global customers, while still maintaining a strong presence in China."
Corning invented a cellular ceramic substrate in 1970 that is now standard for catalytic converters throughout the world. Also, the company manufactured a product that reduces soot in diesel emissions.
The new facility in Shanghai is expected to be operational by mid-2007.
