Clinton pushing school bus emission controls 29th April 2003
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton is set to introduce legislation this week that will authorize 'hundreds of millions' of dollars in federal funding to enable school districts to reduce the emissions from their buses.
Clinton told a press conference today (April 29th) she would be pursuing funds for slashing emissions from the nation's 400,000 diesel school buses on two fronts.
First, she will attempt to have money included in federal energy legislation that could be passed later this year.
In addition, she will introduce separate legislation creating a grant program that would allow school districts to cut pollution from their buses.
Citing studies that showed the rate of asthma was increasing Clinton said diesel emissions have been linked to a host of disorders, including cancer.
'I'm deeply concerned about the health of children and I'm convinced the environment plays a bigger and bigger role,' she concluded.
