Cleaner diesel for US buses 10th November 2005
The US is leading the way in developing cleaner diesel engines for public transport.
Schemes in two major US cities are utilising the latest diesel technology on their public and school buses.
Twenty diesel-electro buses will be driving routes in Chicago from the New Year, as the city attempts to improve fuel efficiency and emissions.
In San Francisco, Green Diesel Technology engines, which use a diesel particulate filter and low sulphur diesel to reduce particulate and hydrocarbon emissions by 90 per cent, are set to be used in school buses.
Michael Cancelliere, vice president and general manager of IC, which produces the new green engine, said: "Customers are confident in our proven emissions technology."
Last month, New York announced that it was set to purchase 500 diesel-electro buses in the new year.
