China officially unveils hydrogen refuelling station 16th November 2007

Chinese officials have officially launched the first hydrogen service station in Shanghai.

The move brings the potential for the development of an integrated fuel cell transport system in the city one step closer.

Built in a joint venture between Linde Group, the Chinese elite Tongji University and Shell Hydrogen, the Shanghai Anting Hydrogen Refuelling Station has been launched in an effort to commercialise fuel cell vehicles in China.

The high-pressure public hydrogen refuelling station has been built with the latest technological advances. The opening of this station is a huge step towards establishing a hydrogen infrastructure in China, and signals the country's dedication towards developing environmentally-friendly fuels," commented professor Ma Jianxin, director of the Institute of Hydrogen Technologies at Tongji University.

Steven Fang, head of Linde's Greater China division, said: "This is a great opportunity for us to leverage our know-how in the hydrogen technology industry to contribute in environmental protection research and initiatives."

Located in Anting New Town, near the Shanghai International Auto City, the refuelling station has the capacity to fuel three fuel cell buses with 45 kg of hydrogen each and 20 fuel cell cars with up to 3 kg of hydrogen each.
