BP opens new hydrogen facility 19th December 2005
BP has opened its second Singapore hydrogen refuelling station as it continues to develop the infrastructure needed for the technology.
The half a million pound test facility at the one-north technology centre in Portsdown Road is said to be the world's first unmanned refuelling station.
An on-site electrolyser produces 10kg of hydrogen gas a day, which is compressed into fuel and put into six models of Mercedes-Benz F-cell car.
Singapore's first facility, launched by the company a year-and-a-half ago, used hydrogen gas brought in from elsewhere.
Mike Jones, general manager of BP Hydrogen, told the Business Times: "The hydrogen fuelling stations are an essential part of a global project to evaluate the possible application of hydrogen fuel cell technology and infrastructure for transport in the future."
BP has opened similar facilities in the UK, Australia and the US, and a test station is set to open in Beijing early next year.
BP recently launched its BP Alternative Energy scheme, which is set to invest over £4 billion in alternative power over the next ten years.
