BASF set for Chinese catalyst acquisition 12th December 2006
BASF has announced that it is to purchase a Chinese motorcycle catalyst company in a bid to meet growing demand in the country.
Emissions control technology is becoming an increasingly important market across the world and BASF states that it has moved to acquire Guilin REEcat Catalyst in an effort to ensure it can keep up with global demand.
"This is an exciting step forward for BASF Catalysts," commented Wayne T Smith, BASF Catalysts President.
Explaining the decision behind the acquisition, Mr Smith added: "We believe it's important that we continue to expand our strong technology presence throughout the world, particularly in the fast-growing China market."
Vice President of Environmental Technologies at BASF's catalysts division revealed that the deal will enable BASF to deliver emissions-control technology across mainland China and beyond.
China is expected to produce over 40 per cent of motorcycles over the coming years to 2011, with motorcycle manufacturing expected to increase by five per cent around the world during that time.
