Basel unveils latest platinum jewellery trends 12th May 2005

A new report from this year's BaselWorld fair has revealed that platinum is proving to be designers' metal of choice for the latest jewellery styles.

According to Basel a host of innovative designs ranging from nature inspired, items for men and geometric shaped jewellery are set to launch in the US market this year.

Platinum will be mixed with unexpected materials including wood, fur and rubber and will be particularly popular for use in men's watches.

Among the jewellers launching the innovative new items are Germany's Henrich & Denzel, which showcased a platinum necklace with circle links of varying sizes and a platinum and diamond pendant that can be worn in an open or closed position.

In addition, Italy's Basilio Liverino made platinum, diamond and pearl brooches which looked like sea-life and British designer Sarah Jordan made a platinum collection of nature inspired pendants, rings, bangles and earrings.

Other top names turning heads included Chris Aire, Anthony Nak, Catalano and Max Kemper.

Platinum is also helping to boost the increasing trend for jewellery including multi-coloured gemstones and diamonds.track
