Aquarius sees pgm output rise 29th July 2003
Production of platinum group metals (pgm) at Aquarius Platinum mines in South Africa and Zimbabwe has shown robust growth according to the company's latest quarterly report released today (July 29th).
Attributable production of 77,243 pgm oz was recorded for the June quarter, up by nearly 4,000 oz from the previous quarter.
At Kroondal production increased by one per cent despite 'challenging geological conditions', while at Marikana output was boosted by 14,740 oz in the quarter.
Recoveries during the quarter improved to 74 per cent from the previous quarter's rate of 70 per cent.
Aquarius said that its 'enhanced system of plant ore redirection and the treatment of less oxidised ore from the open pit' had resulted in the higher rate of recovery.
In addition a recently completed feasibility study at Everest South has shown the project is 'technically sound'.
Aquarius anticipates that construction on the project will commence towards the end of 2003 with production underway by 2005.
At full production in 2006, the mine will produce 225,000 oz pgms per annum.
