Angloplats CEO assumes Chamber of Mines role 1st November 2005

Angloplats chief executive Ralph Havenstein is to become the second vice president of the Chamber of Mines.

Mr Havenstein is a well-established player in the pgm industry and now heads up the world's largest platinum miner.

The news comes as the Chamber of Mines appoints its first black president in its history.

Lazarus Zim, who is in charge of Anglo American's South African operations, will take over from incumbent Dr Con Fauconnier.

Mr Havenstein, meanwhile, will join Harmony Gold chief executive Bernard Swanepoel as one of the vice-presidents in the chamber.
