Angloplat sees wage talks enter rocky patch 14th June 2005

Wage discussion difficulties are expected at Anglo Platinum (Angloplat) as the world's number one platinum producer approaches wage negotiation talks.

Speaking at the firm's strategy presentation this week, chief executive, Ralph Havenstein, believes there are likely to be "some rough patches" when salaries are discussed.

"We only secured a one-year agreement at last year's wage negotiations and I expect some rough patches during negotiations," Mr Havenstein told Dow Jones.

Negotiations follow strike action in October last year, organised by the National Union of Mineworkers, the Togetherness Amalgamated Workers Union of South Africa and the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa.

The event lasted for 13 days and cost the company 50,000 troy ounces in output.

Workers were striking over a wage dispute and similar trouble could be likely this year.track
