Anglo Platinum expects earnings to rise after production boost 11th July 2011
Anglo Platinum (Amplats) has said it expects earnings to increase after a rise in production and prices.
The world's biggest platinum producer, which is owned by Anglo American Plc, reported headline earnings per share for the first six months of 2011 are expected to rise to between 1,131 and 1,336 cents, up from 1,028 cents the previous year.
It comes after the miner reported earlier this year that refined platinum production of 533,000oz in the first quarter of this year was 19 per cent better than production during the same period in 2010.
"The expected increase in headline earnings is primarily due to higher rand prices achieved on metals sold and higher sales volumes," the company said in a statement to the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.
Amplats will release its interim results for the year on July 25th and has said it is confident of refining and selling 2.6 million ounces in 2011.
