Anglo Platinum development continues 22nd June 2007
Anglo Platinum is continuing its development of platinum projects in South Africa as it maintains its position as the top platinum producer in the world.
Contractor Murray & Roberts Cementation is carrying out a number of projects on behalf of Anglo Platinum, including the drilling of three ventilation shafts at the Townlands Ore Replacement Project (TORP), as well as carrying out the boring at Paardekraal's One and Two shafts.
Begun in May this year, the work at TORP is due to be completed by May 2009 according to Mining Weekly and will see the raise boring of three 850-metre-deep ventilation shafts.
Meanwhile, at Anglo Platinum's Paardekraal operations, twin shafts are to be sunk and Murray & Roberts Cementation will be in charge of associated underground infrastructure, including production levels, Mining Weekly explains.
Anglo Platinum Rustenburg Platinum Mine's union section has seen the creation of a four-pump grout plant which is designed to meet the platinum miner's support needs for production on the mine's decline section.
Murray & Roberts Cementation carried out the development of the grout plant, which is designed to pump 100 cubic metres in a single eight-hour shift.
The continued developments highlight Anglo Platinum's efforts to remain at the top of the platinum production world and are further examples of its commitment to future projects in South Africa.
