Anglo Platinum has once more downgraded its projected output of platinum group metals (pgms) for 2007.

The miner now expects to produce between 2.45 and 2.5 million ounces of refined platinum this year.

The announcement marks the second time Anglo Platinum has adjusted its figures downwards this year, with a statement issued in July indicating that output would stand at around the 2.6 million to 2.65 million ounces-mark.

Anglo Platinum attributed the dip in output to tough operating conditions, including the closure of mines for safety reasons, industrial action and a shortage of skilled workers.

Also cited by the firm was the threatened National Union of Mineworkers' one-day industry-wide strike, which is seeking to promote higher standards of safety awareness among mineworkers.

Anglo Platinum will release a statement detailing the expected impact of the current conditions on 2008 output with the publication of full-year results for 2007.
