Anglo American reports platinum production rise 20th October 2011
Anglo American Platinum (Amplats) has reported equivalent refined platinum production rose 12 per cent in the third quarter of 2011 over the previous three-month period.
The world's largest primary platinum producer, which accounts for around 40 per cent of global output, said it is on track to meet its full-year production and sales targets.
Equivalent refined platinum in Q3 2011 was 667,000 oz, up from 593,000 oz in Q2, and 648,000 oz in Q3 2010, or three per cent.
The rise was mainly due to the strong ramp-up at Mogalakwena and Unki, which Amplats said "more than offset the impact of safety-related stoppages".
Refined platinum production decreased to 647,000 oz, seven per cent down on last year, despite higher output from mining operations due to an increase in pipeline stocks.
Meanwhile, refined production of palladium also fell by seven per cent year-on-year, to 376,000 oz.
Refined rhodium output decreased by 16 per cent from 89,000 oz in Q3 2010 to 75,000 in Q3 2011.
