Pop sensation Christina Aguilera has been showing off a dazzling new platinum engagement ring from boyfriend Jordan Bratman.

The ring is worth $114,000 and has a large diamond set in a diamond encrusted platinum band.

According to reports the ring was designed by London based jeweller Stephen Webster, who is a hit with pop and rock stars.

She told People magazine that the ring was stylish and personal.

"It's classic, but it has a rock and roll feeling," she told the magazine.

Platinum has been the precious metal of choice for a number of celebrity nuptials of late with famous designers catering for names including Jennifer Lopez and Alanis Morissette.

The precious metal is also a fixture on the red carpet with Oscar and Golden Globes winners including Charlize Theron and Joely Richardson donning exquisite pieces.

At the Golden Globes last month Kate Winslet wore four stunning platinum and diamond bracelets, drop earrings, and a platinum and diamond ring from Neil Lane's collection.

Nicolette Sheridan and Jennifer Garner could also be seen draped in items designed by the celebrated jeweller.
