African Platinum looks at JSE listing 13th December 2006

African Platinum has announced that it is considering listing on the JSE in an effort to raise more funds for its Leeuwkop project.

The mining firm has revealed that it may list on the exchange as a way to obtain the R1.3 billion it requires to develop the first phase of the project.

African Platinum Chief Executive Roy Pitchford explained that the company might be interested in listing on the JSE to provide local investors with the opportunity to invest in the Leeuwkop project, which is situated on the western limb of South Africa's Bushveld complex.

Speaking to Mining Weekly, Mr Pitchford said: "I suspect that there is appetite in the local platinum investors, and funding is definitely available in South Africa, which we might want to tap into."

However, the company would need to consider the tax advantages which its UK investors could lose if it did list on the JSE, Mr Pitchford added.
