'Resolution close' in Anglo Platinum and Nkwe Platinum dispute 11th January 2008

Talks between Anglo Platinum, Nkwe Platinum and its black empowerment shareholder Genorah over prospects on the Bushveld complex are progressing well ahead of a planned listing on the JSE, Nkwe Platinum's Managing Director has claimed.

The companies have been in dispute over ownership and exploration rights for three farms on the eastern limb of the complex, which has delayed the listing on two occasions already.

However, in an interview with Mining MX, Maredi Mphahlele has now said that "substantial" progress has been made in negotiations and that a resolution of the talks is "very close".

He added: "In principle, things have gone very far and everybody wants to get this legal issue behind us and work from a commercial point of view."

Genorah acquired the farms in the wake of reforms to South Africa's mining legislation in 2004 and has subsequently sold some of the rights to Nkwe in an all-share deal.
