'Business as usual' following mines strike 5th December 2007
Business is back to normal at mines across South Africa following Tuesday's strike by the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), it has been announced.
Anglo Platinum, which said it had lost a full day's output to the strike over safety issues, said that production had restarted at its South African operations.
Spokesman Simon Tebele told Reuters: "Everything is back to normal at the mines."
Meanwhile, officials at Impala Platinum, as well as the other mining firms that had been affected by the strike, also announced that their operations had returned to normal on Wednesday.
Lesiba Seshoka, the spokesman for the NUM, told Reuters: "So far we have no new plans of further disruptions. We will now embark on meetings with the mining companies and DME to set specific timelines to changes we want introduced."
The NUM launched a nationwide strike on Tuesday to demonstrate over health and safety concerns in the mining industry in South Africa.
Anglo Platinum lost 9,000 oz of production due to the industrial action, while Impala Platinum said it had lost around 3,500 oz.
