One of the most expensive items of bejewelled clothing has been showcased in the latest issue of Sports Illustrated.

The diamond bikini, which is set in platinum, offers an eye-catching display, but at a price.

Designed by Susan Rosen in conjunction with Steinmetz Diamonds, the swimsuit is valued at $30 million.

Featuring a host of rare diamonds, including a 51-carat stone, the platinum ensemble is already attracting much attention.

The bikini follows the development of platinum-encrusted designer jeans in 2004 and a number of other jewellery-clothing combinations

The use of jewellery in apparel is seen as a move towards the high-end luxury retail market, with the exclusivity of the jewels often increasing their appeal as well as the price.
