$200,000 platinum watch to go to auction 20th July 2006
A platinum wrist watch with an estimated value of between $150,000 and $200,000 is to be included in a forthcoming auction in New York.
The Patek Philippe "Platinum Ref 5004" wrist watch also features diamonds within its design and has advanced features such as split-seconds chronograph, registers, perpetual calendar and moon phases.
It will go under the hammer during Antiquorum auctioneer's autumn event, entitled Important Collectors' Wristwatches, Pocket Watches, & Clocks.
The Grand Havana Room will host the sale on September 20th and 300 other timepieces will be on offer.
All watches to be auctioned, including the platinum item, can be seen at previews in Beverly Hills, Las Vegas and New York City.
The catalogue for the auction will also be Antiquorum's website two weeks prior to the sale.
Platinum's share of the precious metal watch market has grown steadily over the last 20 years, from 0.4 per cent of Swiss 18 carat gold watch exports in 1987 to 2.6 per cent in 2004.
Nearly all prestige watch makers have a platinum product as part of their top range.
