Lonmin announces platinum production figures 8th May 2008
Lonmin announced that refined production of platinum for the six months ending March 31st reached 282,650 oz.
The mining firm also said that the total production of platinum group metals (PGM) reached 536,128 oz in the six months.
A four day power outage imposed by Eskom impacted on production and the continued power shortages along with safety shutdown and absenteeism have also affected results.
According to a statement from the firm, a new mining team is in the process of implementing plans to optimise mine performance and pre-feasibility studies for Limpopo and Pandora have been completed.
"Production was impacted by the Eskom power interruption at the end of January, safety shutdowns and absenteeism. Our new mining team is now in place with a primary focus on improving operational performance," said Brad Mills, Chief Executive of the firm.
"We are making steady progress with our growth projects, which position Lonmin to take
advantage of the strong expected growth in PGM demand in the coming years," he added.
The firm also announced that profits for the period reached $399 million before tax.
