LCD panels expected to recover in September 22nd August 2008
LCD panels, which use platinum during production, did not enjoy the sales boost that was predicted during the Olympic Games.
Many had expected the market for LCD panels to boom because of the Olympics, but increased sales did not take off although September is likely to bring some relief.
According to iSuppli Corp, the market has been hit with oversupply since June and with worsening economic conditions continuing in August, prices have fallen even faster.
Sweta Dash, director of LCD and projection research at iSuppli, said that other factors would benefit the market during September.
"Panel production cuts, combined with the clearance of inventory and a recovery in demand from TVs, desktop PC monitors and notebook PCs are expected to shift the supply and demand equation back to balance in September," he told EE Times Asia.
The price of a large-sized shipment of LCD panels dropped by 9.6 per cent in June, with prices for mainstream laptops, monitors and TV panels falling by as much as seven per cent.
