Anglo Platinum appoints new CEO 13th May 2008
Anglo Platinum has appointed Neville Nicolau as Chief Executive Officer.
Mr Nicolau will take up his position from June 1st following nearly 30 years of experience in the gold mining industry.
Fred Phaswana, Chairman of Anglo Platinum, was delighted to announce the appointment and said that Mr Nicolau's "extensive" experience in underground mining would be of great benefit to the firm.
He hoped Mr Nicolau would be able to "realise the company's significant ambitions as a world leading platinum producer".
Mr Nicolau was pleased to be joining the firm and said Anglo Platinum's "world class portfolio" would be a good challenge.
He also said that he would lead the company to "optimal performance, with safety at its core".
Meanwhile, Norman Mbazima, who carried out the role during the interim period, has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Scaw Metals although he will continue at Anglo Platinum in the role of Chief Financial Officer.
Duncan Wanblad, who also took up the role in the interim period, has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of copper in the base metals division of Anglo American.
Mr Phaswana thanked them both and noted their "considerable contributions" to the firm.
