The US Mint has announced that the 2008 American Eagle Platinum Proof Coins will go on sale on Monday May 5th.
Orders for all sizes of the platinum proof coins will be accepted from noon on May 5th as well as the related four-coin set, Numismatic News reports.
The coins have an image of Lady Justice with scales and sword on the reverse of the platinum coins and it is the final design in a three-year series to celebrate the Judicial branch of the US Government.
Entitled "The Foundations of American Democracy", the coins were designed by Joel Iskowitz a Mint Artistic Infusion Program Master Designer.
The remaining side of the coins holds an image of Liberty that was designed by John Mercanti - a Sculptor Engraver from the Mint.
A certificate of authenticity accompanies the coin which is encompassed in a plastic case.
Proof Platinum Eagles are engraved with the "W" mintmark, showing that production at the US Mint facility at West Point in New York.
