Anglo Platinum is ready to begin mining activities at the Unki Mine in Shurugwi this year with robust growth expected within two years.
The firm has started a recruitment drive, indicating that mining could begin in the second quarter.
Originally scheduled to begin production in 2007, the start date was delayed because of the need to recruit necessary staff and the need for the government to allow the firm to pay staff in foreign currency.
"Anglo Platinum has embarked on an exciting undertaking near Shurugwi in the lush Zimbabwean Midlands, approximately 60 kilometres from the town of Gweru," a recruitment notice read.
"Unki Mine contains platinum and palladium and will be mined using the bord-and-pillar mining method," it added.
Anglo Platinum said that the first production was expected this year and 120,000 tonnes per month were expected by the fourth quarter of 2010.
The Unki Mine has the potential to become the second largest platinum mine in Zimbabwe, the Financial Gazette reports.
