Dyesol accepts funding for DSC on steel 12th March 2008
Dyesol UK has accepted an offer from the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) to support the Dyesol-Corus joint development project for the application of Dye Solar Cell (DSC) technology that contains ruthenium dye.
Ruthenium dye and a layer of titania are sandwiched between glass to create the cells which create an electric current many times stronger than the one found in natural photosynthesis in plants.
The cells can be used on steel sheeting as part of a manufacturing process and the technology is the only solar technology to be integrated into the coil coating process used to produce colour coated steel sheets.
Nano-paint will form a multilayered DSC structure on the steel.
The offer from the WAG is worth £2.3 million enabling the project to be rapidly accelerated in Wales.
The deal also represents a major building block in the international growth of Dyesol.
Producing electricity extremely efficiently in low light conditions, the technology can be incorporated into buildings by replacing glass panels, reducing the need to create extra roof or land area.
