Mariah Carey receives $5.4m platinum necklace 31st August 2006
Mariah Carey has been presented with a $5.4 million diamond and platinum necklace.
The generous gift was presented to Ms Carey by the Sultan of Brunei's son, 24-year old Prince Azim.
He presented the pop diva with the eight-carat flawless diamond and platinum necklace and matching ring through his representatives on a private jet, reports the Mirror.
The singer, whose recent Emancipation of Mimi album was also platinum-selling, received the gift prior to her live performance at New York's Madison Square Garden in front of 20,000 fans.
A representative of Prince Azim said: "We were sent by private jet to deliver this gift."
Platinum jewellery is very much in vogue for America's celebrity elite with many stars adorning themselves in it for the last week's Emmy Awards.
Research from the Platinum Guild International showed that over 40 celebrities chose to wear platinum jewellery for the event with the highest valued piece standing at $5 million – still $0.4 million shy of the value of Ms Carey's new gift.
