One of the world's most famous pieces of jewellery is on display at the Platinum Guild International's Academy Awards Red Carpet Jewellery Preview and could be poised for an even bigger stage.

The Platinum Black Orlov Diamond necklace will be shown off, with reports suggesting that hot Oscar tip Felicity Huffman could be in line to wear the stunning 67.5 carat diamond set in a pure platinum necklace.

The necklace, which features a further 108 carats of white diamonds, costs $2 million, but is also said to bring with it a deadly curse.

Removed from a sacred Hindu shrine in the 1940s, the diamond is purported to carry a curse – with three former owners said to have killed themselves in mysterious circumstances.

Now the necklace is on display again and USAToday suggests that Best Actress nominee Huffman – who is famous for her role in Desperate Housewives and for the nominated film Transamerica – will don the necklace.

Current owner J. Dennis Petimezas is keeping his counsel over the chances of Ms Huffman wearing the necklace, but both he and the actress will be hoping the curse doesn't strike again.
